Huawei Nova 8
Is a Huawei phone worth the adventure?
Right now, during 2021, the category with smartphones is more category than ever. We have even started writing divisions within that middle category, and a middle, medium or medium category, where the internal phone hardware approaches the middle class flagship hardware.
In this semi-class category, Huawei is trying to enter with its new phone, Nova 8, but the competition is tougher than one can imagine side by side. Especially in the case of Huawei, whose phone comes without Google services. It is a selling point for all other companies that rely on Google's Android operating system.

The issue here is that we're getting 1080p service, but we're actually feeling like getting the Android experience the company has been accustomed to over the years.
Things are starting to get right, and based on current software experiences, buying a phone from Huawei is an adventure, but that doesn't mean the experience is bad, but we haven't gotten used to it yet. What can the Nova 8 offer to make you take that adventure?
Huawei Nova 8 Design

If you are someone who sets the standard for placing on the back of smartphones, even in the mid-range category, missing the Huawei 8 will not disappoint. The phone comes with a metal frame with a glass front and back, and the company mentions that it is a design inspired by the P40 series of phones.
The edges are curved in size, giving a slimmer look than it actually is, with a thickness of 7.6 mm, and it also comes in a light weight of 169 grams.
The phone has a 6.57-inch OLED screen, has a fingerprint scanner and a front camera hole in the middle, and above it is an in-ear hole.
On the right side are the keys for the volume control and the phone lock, in their corresponding places, because they are on the same side, and the other side is without keys.
And at the top is the SIM card and microphone input,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
While on the back you will see the quad-camera module, and the glass phone has a glossy gold color, but unfortunately it is exposed to fingerprints, obviously, besides that this color can be folded and moreover.

The 6.57-inch OLED panel comes in Full HD + (2340 x 1080), and there is an option to adjust the resolution to switch the resolution dynamically to preserve battery charge, along with a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz.
As expected from an OLED screen, distinct colors, with wide viewing angles. The slim curved edges give a distinct viewing experience as well. The front camera hole in the middle might be a bit distracting, but there is an option you can reduce the screen size so the hole at the top is further away from what you see.
The company did not mention any type of protection for the screen glass, which is strange in a phone of this class,
The rated refresh rate is 90 Hz. And like the display resolution, you can also choose a dynamic refresh rate, which automatically drops to 60Hz to conserve charging.

Huawei Nova 8 performance and battery
The Nova 8 comes with Huawei's own Kirin 820E chip, Mali-G57 graphics processor, 8GB RAM, and 128GB internal storage. The performance experience is good, and the phone can run all its features without issues.
The original version of the mobile phone, but, but, but, and it escalates, and describes, and ascends the original, and issues the new ones.

As for the battery, the phone comes with a 3800 mAh battery, which is enough for a full day or a little more of average use, and it has two days of simple use. 66W fast charging. When I tried charging the phone from 0% to 23% it took 5 minutes, 37% in 10 minutes, 93% in 30 minutes, and when fully charged to 100% in 39 minutes.
Huawei Nova 8 user interface

The Huawei 8 phone comes with the EMUI 12 interface, Huawei does not show Android versions in its latest devices, but mostly it works on the Android 10 system. As a user interface, you will feel like another phone running on the Android system, but the difference is that without Google services, you will not find the usual applications, Like YouTube, Gmail, or Google Maps, access these services using your browser.
It could have a MateBook or a Matepad tablet, it works just fine, from exclusive services like Huawei Share Smart, what on another device Apple offers
its own ecosystem.

When it comes to applications, the phone comes with many suggested applications and games that you will not need most of them. These applications are not actually installed on the device, but removing them is as cumbersome as removing an installed application, you will feel that your phone screen is full of clutter until you get rid of those applications and games.
And speaking of apps, there is no Google Play Store on the phone of course, but instead you'll need to rely on Huawei's Appgallery. The store is growing fast and includes most of the really basic apps, but some of the apps you might need aren't there yet, so you might resort to external downloading. If you are a seasoned Android user and you are already familiar with it, this should not be a problem for you, you can use Huawei's Petal search to find any app and download it in APK format, or use the websites that offer apps in that format.
While if you are not used to downloading apps from other sites in APK format, and you like downloading from the App Store, you will have a problem here with the user interface on your Nova 8. Of course downloading apps from other sites is not a comprehensive solution, as certain applications cannot be downloaded easily, So, seasoned Android users will not have problems, but the average user should be careful before deciding to buy a phone without Google services or Google Play Store.
Huawei Nova 8 Camera

The rear camera in the Nova 8 phone comes with four cameras, the primary lens with a resolution of 64 megapixels and aperture of f / 1.9 lens, and a lens with an ultra-wide angle of 8 megapixels and f / 2.4 lens slot, a lens of depth of 2 megapixels with accuracy and f / 2.4 lens slot, and a macro lens with a accuracy of 2 megapixels f/2.4 aperture.
The main camera delivers photos with clear detail, color and contrast in the daytime and in good light, but in low light conditions the camera feels normal or medium and could have been better. The ultra-wide-angle camera shows more details in the image, of course, and you will not notice a clear difference between it and the main camera in terms of image quality.
The artificial intelligence feature in the Nova 8 phone camera is good, and it recognizes different shooting modes in most cases with the feature of autofocus with PDAF imaging status detection. Neither camera hardware has optical image stabilization, so you'll need steady hands when taking photos, especially when shooting video.
The phone also comes with a 32-megapixel front camera and f/2.0 lens slot, which provides clear selfies in the daytime, and can take pictures up to 4K quality.
Huawei Nova 8 Price and final evaluation
Huawei Nova 8 phone review
The Nova 8 comes at a price of approximately 1,800 AED.
The Huawei Nova 8 can be considered a semi-leading mid-range phone, in terms of hardware and design at least, and it offers an OLED screen with a refresh rate of 90 Hz, fast charging with a capacity of 66W, and fairly good cameras.
But the main problem is the user interface that comes without Google services, with the difficulty of downloading and installing some applications, so if you can dispense with those services from Google, the phone will be a good deal for its price. But in any case, there are many options in the same category, with the same equipment, and perhaps better, so perhaps Huawei should have to provide something stronger or reduce the price more, so that the user can think about taking this adventure!
